Le mot du marchand

Kilat est un ex-graffeur du tout début du mouvement. Dans les années 80 du siècle dernier il opérait d’une manière plutôt agressive et assurément contestataire en menant des actions dites vandales, lesquelles consistaient à perturber le bon déroulement de salons ou manifestations internationales, en détournant des affiches, en taguant des murs ou en lacérant et aspergeant de couleurs des œuvres exposées dans ces mêmes lieux. En résumé des pratiques bien moins policées et consensuelles que celles des street-artistes actuels. Aujourd’hui assagi ses oeuvres conservent néanmoins une dimension critique vis à vis des us et coutumes de notre société en général et du monde de l’art en particulier. Kilat n’est plus un activiste mais plutôt un témoin de son temps, un commentateur sociétal de son époque. De son passé de graffeur il conserve cependant comme marque identificatrice les petits personnages en bâtons qu’il avait introduits dès ses premiers graffitis. Selon ses propres termes ils constituent dorénavant la « Kilat touch ».

à propos de la série : la série « Heracles » reprend les 12 travaux d’Hercule en 11 toiles de 215 x 215 cm et une en 215 x 293 cm. Les titres sont des transcriptions très libres et des raccourcis dérisoires des intitulés mythologiques.

Word from the merchant

Kilat is a former graffiti artist from the very beginning of the movement. In the 80s of last century he operated in a rather aggressive and undoubtedly antisestablishment way by carrying out so-called vandal actions, which consisted of disrupting the smooth running of international shows or events, by diverting posters, by graffitiing walls or by lacerating and staining with paint some artworks exhibited in these same places. In summary far less civilized and consensual practices than those of current street artists. Today quieted down his works nevertheless retain a critical dimension with respect to the habits and customs of our society in general and the art world in particular. Kilat is no longer an activist but rather a witness of his time, a societal commentator of his era. From his past as a graffiti artist, he however keeps as an identifier the small figures in sticks that he had introduced at his earliest graffiti. In his own words, they are now the "Kilat touch".

related to the series : the «series "Heracles" takes up the 12 labours of Hercules in 11 canvases of 215 x 215 cm and in one of 215 x 293 cm. The titles are very open transcriptions and derisory shortcuts of the mythological titles.
